In recognition of the severe financial hardship faced by many students pursuing a career in medicine and allied medical sciences at the Jaffna medical school, we started a scholarship programme where by students are selected on a needs-based assessment for financial awards. This programme is supported by all the branches of the MIOT committee.

Once a student has been accepted into the programme they are followed through until they pass the final MBBS examination. Overall we have supported more than 150 students through this programme so far, and we are proud to say that there have been more than six students so far who have obtained higher classes and distinctions in their final examination.

At any one time we support around 26 students a year, but this number has been higher in the past. Your donations will help us select more students and to support them.
